Weirdly enough, this blog gets more views now than when I actually updated it. I'm convinced most of them are from Russian bots, but I wanted to see if anyone still reads Gnarly Book Reviews. If so, maybe I'll come back and write some more stuff. I was pretty young when I first started, so I'm probably slightly better at writing now. Maybe not, though. Those bots don't give a lot of feedback. Either way, comment if you're reading this and you're a human being.
I actually just found this after getting on a middlegrade horror kick for the past month. Working my way through your posts now. I'd love to see you review more stuff.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'd love to review more stuff. Can't quite decide what, though...
DeleteWow, didn't expect an update to this blog in 2023. I still read as someone who looks into things like Shivers and such.
ReplyDeleteAy that's awesome, I had no idea that anyone who saw this blog back in the mid 2010's was still coming back.
DeleteI just discovered this blog a couple weeks ago after a friend reminded me about the Shivers series. Already read every single review because I just loved the style
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome, thanks so much! Knowing that people still enjoy this blog (or ever enjoyed it) means the world to me.
DeleteI'm here
ReplyDeleteHell yeah S. Chu thank you.
DeleteI discovered your blog a few years ago when googling the "Scary Stories for Sleep-Overs" book and still come back sometimes to read it again. Your reviews were hilarious and I guess I left a comment a year ago on your Sharknado 2 review, telling you to review the "Dare to be Scared" series. I still stand by that. I think you'd have a lot to say!
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for the kind words, and thanks for coming back! At first glance, the "Dare to Be Scared" series looks like it shares a lot of faults with "Scary Stories for Sleep-Overs." In other words, it's perfect. If I do end up coming back (and it looks like I just might), I know what I'll read first.
DeleteAlso here on a middle grade horror kick. Love your reviews! I think the views are genuine. Keep posting!!
ReplyDeleteThat's great to hear, thanks so much! I just might make that comeback soon...
DeletePosted a comment but it looks like it didn’t submit. Came here a couple years ago to read some Shivers reviews (childhood nostalgia!) and I’m reading a few more now. They’re fantastic. Would love some more reviews (goosebumps, deadtime stories??). Keep it up! Your writing is superb.
ReplyDeleteYeah sorry about that, I have to approve comments cause I get a lot of spam, and I've been out of the country for a while so I've been bad about checking. Thanks for the recommendations!
DeleteI found your blog because I was desperately trying to find the story of the girl who at the end accidentally drinks nail polish remover because it was dark and she thought it was cough medicine. I thought it was in the same book as the ant farm one, but maybe not. Back to the drawing board!
ReplyDeleteDoesn't ring a bell unfortunately. Now I'm curious, though. That doesn't even sound like a fun scary story climax, just a terrifying thing that could actually happen.
DeleteBut also the taste should probably be a dead giveaway. Nail polish remover goes down waaayyyy easier than cough syrup.
DeleteHey, I just reviewed that anthology on my own blog. It was from Scary Stories for Stormy Nights, by RC Welch, author of the first Sleep-Overs anthology. Cheers!
DeleteAy nice you found it!
DeleteYou should link your own blog here - that story sounds disturbing, I’d love to read it.
